What to expect at a free in-home remodeling consultation
By the Renolist team · Oct 28, 2026 · 2 min read
A representative from the remodeling company comes to your home, looks at the space, asks what you want, walks you through options and gives you a price, usually all in one visit. It's free, and you don't have to sign anything.
Before the visit
You'll get a confirmation with the date, the time and the company that's coming. If you booked through Renolist, we also send you the company's name, their reviews and how long they've been in business, so you know who's at the door. If anyone else will help make the decision, plan for them to be there too.
During the visit
- A look at the space. The representative measures the room and checks things like plumbing, layout and the condition of what's there now.
- Your goals. What bothers you about the room today, what you want it to feel like, and what's a must-have versus a nice-to-have.
- Options. Materials, styles and layouts that fit your space and budget, often with samples or photos of past work.
- A price. Most companies give you a price at the end of the visit, along with any financing options they offer.
- Your questions. Ask anything: timeline, warranty, who does the work, what's included.
How long it takes
Plan for a couple of hours so nothing is rushed. A visit with all the decision-makers present usually covers everything at once, instead of needing a second appointment.
After the visit
The decision is yours. You can go ahead, take time to think, or say no. A free consultation never obliges you to buy.
How Renolist fits
Renolist books free in-home consultations with one local remodeling company. It's free for homeowners, there's no obligation, and your details are never sold or shared with other companies.
